From the book
Bishop Herman Darius Brown was a visionary leader, an anointed preacher, an intellect, with an inimitable baritone singing voice. More than this, Bishop Brown was a true spiritual father, raising many sons in the gospel who went on to be preachers, pastors, overseers, and bishops. He was accessible, caring, understanding and a forgiving man.
Bishop Brown is a highly significant figure within Pentecostalism and the Black-Led Churches across the UK. He is a true Windrush era man, having arrived in England in November 1950. Bishop Brown is a founder member of two of the most significant Pentecostal church organisations in the UK: The New Testament Church of God (NTCOG) and Bethel United Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic.
Bishop Brown came to Christ at the age of 16 in his hometown of Hanover, Jamaica in 1940. The surroundings were a humble bamboo mission with a dirt floor. Two years later, in 1942, he was appointed as a lay preacher, labouring faithfully as a minister in the New Testament Church of God in Hanover.
As his ministry continued the Lord began to reveal more about Himself to the young Pastor Brown. In 1959 the Lord showed Pastor Brown the Oneness of the Godhead, that the mighty God was Jesus, and that baptism should be done using the saving name of Jesus according to Acts 2:38. Sunday 19th July 1959 marked a dramatic turning point in the life of Bishop and Mother Brown. He stepped down from the pastorate of NTCOG Wolverhampton, to follow his conviction about the Oneness of God and baptism in Jesus' name.
